Set just at the entrance to Bangor's main shopping street, under the canopy of a beautiful lime tree, the Ava Bar, Restaurant and Off-Sales on three levels offers everything you'd expect from a modern licensed complex.
On the first floor is the stylish Ava Restaurant. The atmosphere is modern, warm and comfortable. As you enter at the top of the staircase, you are welcomed to the bar area where customers can enjoy drinks or just great coffees. The restaurant area is bright and airy and the best in freshly-prepared food is available seven days a week via the blackboard specials or the a la carte menu. Our priority is to make sure that our guests have a great time and you will find our friendly staff ready to guide you through the menu options with suggestions for drinks and wines to accompany your food choice. The Ava Restaurant is also licensed for children, with full facilities to cope with the youngest of visitors who are welcome until 7pm each evening, when the venue becomes more adult-orientated.
For a great day's craic, the ground floor Ava Bar can't be beaten. It features a central oval bar and superb large TV screens which ensure that every major sporting event is covered for the fans who want to enjoy the atmosphere in a typical Irish pub. Friendly staff provide the best "Black Stuff" in the town and their knowledge of the local scene in invaluable for visitors.
Down the steps on the corner is the Ava Off-Sales. Building on the vast experience of his family over more than 60 years, the owner, Paul Hillen, has provided everything possible for the convenience of his customers. Major features of the beautifully-decorated shop are the chillers which hold a host of white wines and beers from all over the world ready to drink at the perfect temperature. The shop is packed full of other wines, spirits, liqueurs, malts, fine cigars, chocolates and a great cheese counter - enough to satisfy any appetite should guests unexpectedly call or the weather come up trumps for a spur-of-the-moment picnic! All you have to do is ask our experienced counter assistants and they will be only too happy to guide you through your choices and explain the services which the shop can offer for special parties and occasions.
